Hanging Laundry

I just love hanging my laundry out. I’m not sure if it’s just being outside near the garden than energizes my soul, or if it’s the act of taking care of my family’s needs without the use of one more electric appliance.

I don’t know, but I know that it sure makes me feel like Ma from Little House…and that makes me smile.

  1. I loved hanging out my laundry, too. I loved the smell of clean, wet laundry as the breeze blew through, the predictability of it, the crispness of sheets, the connection with all those women through the ages who did the same thing, that I wasn’t going to be startled by a buzzer telling me they were done, the snap of towels and sheets in the wind, using the God-given purifying sun to sanitize what would be going against my family’s skin, looking up & out into the world and sky while doing a “chore” (most chores you are looking down, you know), the quiet.

Too much rain here in Oregon to do much hanging out :(

  2. I hung my laundry out everyday the summer before last…loved it! My dryer broke andmI told hubs not to buy me another till I absolutely needed it. I ended up figuring out that hanging out laundry was going to be a no-go for us after hubby went to the hospital with a major asthma attack. We couldnt figure out why his asthma was flaring and why it was so bad! Live an learn, but i do miss that fresh smell that only the sun can bring :)

  3. Aww, that’s a bummer, Amber! I’ll bet it’s all the pollen in the air, clinging to your clothes. What a bummer! But yes, gotta take care of hubby!
